Campaña escocesa pol dominiu .sco

CAMPAIGN UPDATE FROM DOT SCOT REGISTRY

Thank-you for giving your support to the campaign to secure a new top-level internet domain (TLD) of .scot for the worldwide family of Scots.Your support is vital to the success of the campaign. If you have friends or family who you think would be interested in supporting the bid for .scot then please do forward this email on to them. People and organisations can site up as supporters via our website, http://www.dotscot.net/ , or by emailing info@dot-scot.org with 'support' in the subject line.

SO WHEN WILL .SCOT WEB ADDRESSES BE AVAILABLE?

For those who have followed the campaign for sometime know all too well that the process to bid for a new TLD is long, complex and full of delays. We are waiting for the international body who has the power to allocate new TLDs (called ICANN, the Internet Corporate for Assigned Names and Numbers) to finalise the bidding process. Sadly finalising this bidding process has been hit by delay after delay. ICANN have the difficult job of trying to balance the competing interests of governments, big business, communities are internet users to ensure that by creating new TLDs the benefits clearly outweigh any potential negative impacts. We have recently been given a revised timeline by ICANN and, should there be no further delays, the earliest that we could make .scot web addresses available for sale would be late 2012. However, given that there has been so much delay in the process (we began the .scot campaign 5 years ago!) we would expect that there will be some slippage in the programme. Regardless of when we do finally get to bid for a new TLD of .scot we will continue to keep working to make sure we are successful. As the process moves forward we'll aim to keep you up to date with our progress.------------------------------------------------------
